It’s been called one of the most beautiful castles in the world, peeking out from the surrounding hills. Constructed over the course of 300 years, from the 11th through 14th centuries, Vianden Castle was the residence of the Counts of Vianden, who held great power in the area due to their connections with German and French royalty. But unfortunately, in the 19th century, Vianden was sold to an unscrupulous businessman, who sold everything in it until the castle became dilapidated. In the 20th century, though, it passed to the state, which restored it to its former beauty.
