Find the best position

Site a swimming pool away from large trees so that it’s less likely to be deluged by leaves and dirt, which can eat up hours in pool-cleaning time. Overhanging trees provide summer shade, but also drop material that has to be regularly removed, such as leaves, twigs and flowers.

Get shade, without the leaves, by investing in a shade sail that can unfurled fully or partially, or erect a permanent structure such as a pergola over part of the pool.
