Waitangi

Official celebrations take place at Waitangi in the Bay of Islands, where the Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840. The festival kicks off on 4th February with the championship Maori game Ki-o-rahi Waitangi Iwi Bowl, and also includes music, cultural displays and debate about national issues. Waitangi Day is marked with the raising of the flag at dawn and an aerobatic display by the NZ Air Force. More info
