Keep shovels and rakes organised with this weatherproofed caddy. Made from recycled hardwood fence palings, it’s constructed with simple butt joints and is easy to build.

DESIGN FEATURES
The curved edges are cut with a jigsaw but if you don’t have one then leave them straight.

Side cleats form a shelf area at the front, with galvanised hooks and bolts fitted for hanging tools. A length of 8mm threaded rod is secured near the top as a divider and to add strength, as well providing an additional place to hang tools.

 

 

 

 

Choose palings that are in good condition, remove old nails, clean the surface with a wire brush then cut
the parts to size with a mitresaw. From the base of the slats, square a line at 15mm and 490mm.

 

 

 

 

 

Position the cleats face down to apply exterior construction adhesive, and position three vertical slats over them at the marked lines, securing with screws from the back.

 

 

 

 

 

Secure the rear side slats 30mm from the back of the side cleats, leaving a 5mm space and securing the front side slats with screws. Secure the inside cleats to the sides 15mm up from the base.

 

 

 

 

 

Apply adhesive to the sides then position the front and back, clamping to hold. Drill 1.5mm pilot holes 100mm apart to prevent splitting and secure with clouts.
TIP Let adhesive dry before removing any excess with a utility knife.
