If you’re planning an overseas holiday, don’t leave everything to the last minute. Advance planning pays in more ways than just time saved.
Two to three months before your departure, check the expiry date on your passport. Many countries require you to have at least 6 months’ validity remaining on your passport, so allow enough time for renewal if necessary
Check if you need a visa and any other paperwork – and factor in a bit of extra time, as the process can sometimes be very slow.
Find out in good time about recommended vaccinations – some need to be administered 6–12 weeks before departure. And don’t forget to take your vaccination certificate with you on your trip.
Consider taking out a comprehensive medical insurance policy, as overseas medical costs can be horrifyingly expensive.
Talk to your GP about any prescription drugs you might need to take with you in case of emergency, and check that they won’t contravene the drug laws of your destination country.
Buy traveller’s cheques or ensure that you have a credit card that’s valid for your destination, and that can be used at ATMs.
Luggage Tip:
Your suitcase is navy blue or black, with a solid shell and wheels. It’s easy to handle and practical – in short, it’s perfect for long plane journeys. To avoid your luggage looking the same as everyone else’s, put on a sticker or a ribbon so it’s easy to identify, and you’ll have no trouble recognising it.
