Fast fingers did the talking at the Olympics of text messaging – the LG Mobile World Cup – earlier this year. The annual event is now in its third year, with the world’s fastest and most accurate texters pitted against each other in a fierce battle – five rounds of team and individual events in a gameshow-style competition. This year 13 countries participated, (including Team New Zealand), up from just four in 2008. The winning pair from South Korea took home a grand prize of US$100,000.

In second place was Team USA including Kate Moore, 16, of Iowa. Kate averages 14,000 texts per month (gulp!) and says she can talk and text at the same time, without looking at the phone. Now, surely that’s an achievement worth boasting about.
