1. In most big cities, choosing a parking station over metered parking is the fastest and easiest option. Apart from wasting time driving around looking for a metered spot on the street, meters can cost almost as much as some parking stations. And parking fines are yet another example of expensive, infuriating time wasters.

2. In case you don’t have the option of a parking station, make sure you always carry loose change with you or be prepared to use your credit card to clock up time on a parking meter.

3. Using a credit card on parking meters is a quick and handy way to have a record of the parking fee if it’s tax deductible for you. It will appear on your credit card statement, so there’s no need to hang on to all those parking meter tickets.

4. To avoid theft of contents, never leave valuables, clothes or personal papers in a parked car, not even in the glove box or under the floor mats.
