Frozen pizza dough is a convenience food that radically cuts down time in the kitchen. It's ideal for children learning to prepare and cook simple meals.

Ingredients for pizza with mushrooms

20 oz frozen pizza dough, thawed
About 125 ml (½ cup) olive oil

For the Topping
1 white onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, finely sliced
400 g (1 2/3 cups) can chopped tomatoes
2 tablespoons tomato paste
1 teaspoon oregano leaves
300 g mixed mushrooms
100 g ham
110 g each of gouda and mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons chopped parsley

Preparation method for pizza with mushrooms

1. Use a large baking tray. Grease with oil. Roll out dough to fit baking tray. Place dough on tray.

2. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a pan; fry the onion and garlic until transparent. Add tomatoes; cook, uncovered, for 5 minutes to reduce. Stir in the tomato paste and season with oregano and salt and pepper.

3. Preheat oven to 250°C. Clean mushrooms with a paper towel, if needed; slice finely. Cut ham into strips. Remove rind from gouda and grate coarsely; slice the mozzarella.

4. Spread the tomato mixture over dough. Scatter the mushrooms, ham, both cheeses and the parsley over the top. Season with salt and pepper and drizzle with remaining olive oil. Bake for 12–15 minutes until the edges of the dough are light brown.

Great recipe. Frozen dough is a great idea as you get the authentic taste, but the only frozen pizza dough I know of in New Zealand is John Palino's frozen pizza dough. Palino's is a really good dough, so worth looking for.
