1. Cut the uprights

Cut the four 42 x 42mm uprights to length, each with a 35° bevel on the top (see Diagram 1). Use the first cut upright as a template for the others.

2. Attach cross braces

Cut six 410mm long cross braces for the sides from 42 x 19mm timber. Glue and screw-fix three cross braces to each pair of side uprights, 20mm in from the exterior edges. Check that the frames are square.

3. Fix the top rails

Cut two 42 x 42mm top rails, with a 35° bevel on each end. Fix to the top of the uprights with 100mm x 10g bugle head screws. Cut 42 x 19mm infill beading pieces to fit between cross braces. Fix 20mm in from the uprights’ exterior edges.

4. Assemble the frame

Cut four 565mm long braces from 42 x 42mm timber to join the sides together. Glue and screw-fix two at the top and two at the bottom using 100mm x 10g bugle head screws.
