How to lay floorboards
Putting down a floating floor is a fairly simple job but it’s a good idea to enlist another pair of hands to help speed up the process and ensure the boards are positioned evenly and clicked tightly
STEP 1

Position an offcut of flooring and underlay next to the door jamb to determine how much needs to be trimmed then cut the base off the door jamb slowly and squarely using a sharp handsaw.
STEP 2

Use plastic or timber blocks to space the first row of boards away from the wall for the required expansion gap around the perimeter.
TIP The gap will be hidden by the skirting when it is refitted.
STEP 3

Align the tongue in the groove of the adjacent board, tapping along the length with a hammer and tapping block. Work with a partner to make sure the joints are even and tight for a professional finish.

Trim the last boards with a jigsaw to allow for skirting to be replaced, then use a pulling bar and hammer to secure the last row of boards for a snug fit and to avoid any movement.
