How to Use E-Tags in New Zealand
E-Tags are a more efficient way of paying road tolls- it saves time and in most places it's as easy as signing up online

1. An E-tag allows drivers who have subscribed to an electronic payment system to save time on toll roads, tunnels and bridges. (In New Zealand and South Africa, cash is needed to use toll roads and bridges, although E-tags are currently under consideration.)
2. Using the designated E-tag lanes means you avoid lengthy queues at cash booths and don’t have to stop to pay tolls – the tag you attach to your windscreen activates the fee mechanism automatically.
3. You can sign up online at home in just a few minutes using the Internet. Use your computer search engine or ask around to find out which company suits you best.
4. Most companies direct debit your credit card whenever the credit on your E-tag has been used up, then email you a record of debits so that you can keep a check on how much money you’re paying on tolls. This also saves time if you need a record of tolls paid for business purposes.
5. In Australia, many tags can be used on toll roads in several states, including New South Wales, Victoria and Queensland, but others can only be used on specific toll roads. Make sure the tag you buy works on the roads you intend to use.
