Do you ever wish you had just the right bite of scientific information at your fingertips to stop climate change cynics in their tracks? Wish no longer. Skeptical Science, a free iPhone application developed by Australian physicist John Cook, provides just that.
Now you can use your phone to view a comprehensive list of the most-used arguments against climate change, as well as the scientific responses to each, including graphs, diagrams and links to academic papers. Green news website treehugger.com estimates there are now more than 100 green applications for the iPhone and iPod. Here are just a few of our favourites…
1. Gorgeously Green Survival Guide
Created by bestselling author Sophie Uliano, it’s a girls’ own guide to making greener choices in your everyday life. A bit US-skewed, but cute.
2. Global Warming Personal Calculator
A carbon calculator that adds up the energy you consume (car, lights, heating etc) and compares it to that of the average person.
3. Veggie Passport
For travellers who are saying yes to the planet by saying no to meat, this translates a handful of phrases such as “Do you serve vegan dishes?” into dozens of languages.
4. Green Charging
This clever little app is simple and elegant. It sets an alarm that alerts you when your phone is fully charged, so you can switch off the power at the mains. Brilliant!
