Fixing sticking doors
Most faults in doors can be cured quite easily. For some jobs you may need another person to help you, or to steady the door while you work on it.

Door binding along one side Doors often bind (stick) in their frames because regular repainting causes a build-up of paint on the edge of the door and on the frame.
STEP 1 Strip off the paint. Do this mechanically to avoid damaging the finish on the door faces. Use either a belt sander or a smoothing plane. Keep in mind the possibility that the paint may be lead-based, so a protective mask is advisable.
STEP 2 Smooth the stripped surfaces with abrasive paper and check that the door opens and closes easily.
STEP 3 There should be a slight gap of about 3mm between the edge of the door and the frame. To check for this, run a coin of the same width all round the edge of the door when it is closed. Where the gap is insufficient, strip and then plane that edge of the door. You may have to take the door off its hinges, and perhaps remove locks and latches.
STEP 4 Prime and paint the stripped edges of the door. Then let the paint dry before closing the door.

Bill B on 17 September 2010 ,15:36 You dont need to pull out the sander, planer or even trim the door. Just switch out the hinges for The Original Adjustable Door Hinges. Then move the door up or down, side to side or in and out and stop wherever it is sticking....www.fixastickingdoor.com
