Easy method for cleaning silver
Like many ‘old-fashioned’ remedies, this silver-cleaning method has a sound scientific basis: it relies on a process called galvanic coupling, which takes place between the two metals.
Ingredients
a couple of sheets of aluminium foil
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp salt
1 tbsp bicarbonate of soda
Preparation
■ Line the bottom of a non- metal bucket or large bowl with a couple of sheets of aluminium foil. Add the salt and bicarbonate of soda to
the bucket or bowl. Fill with boiling water.
the bucket or bowl. Fill with boiling water.
■ Immerse washable silver articles (sterling or plated) in the solution and allow to soak for an hour or two (the foil will get darker).
■ Remove the silverware, rinse and dry thoroughly to restore its shine.
