What is it about the indigo-dyed, twill weave cotton trousers known as jeans that we all find so endearing? French fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent once described them as “the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.” He was right. What other piece of casual clothing can make you feel sexy, yet be perfectly appropriate for picking up the kids from school?

Their popularity has led to a confusing amount of in-store variety – and a corresponding level of dread when it comes to shopping for a new pair.

Jeans shopping can play havoc with the female psyche. How many times has Why am I a size X here, but not a size X there played in your mind? The good news is you may be right to wonder: according to the Council of Textile and Fashion Industries Australia, standardised sizing for adult fashion in Australia simply does not exist.

Thankfully, shopping is getting easier, with brands now realising it’s not the size that counts but the shape. In a study carried out by Levi Strauss, 67% of the women surveyed believed jeans to be designed for women with “ideal” figures. To bring ordinary women one step closer to what’s perceived by many to be an impossible dream, Levi’s new Curve ID range lets you select from three curvy choices: Slight, Demi, or Bold.

There’s nothing more understated and sexy than a confident woman in a pair of form-fitting jeans. So, whether you need to wear them in the garden with gumboots, on a dinner date with heels, or to work with a crisp white shirt, there has never been a more female-form-friendly time to shop for your perfect pair
