If you’re bamboo, however, you may need to be. Unless you have an
acreage where you can enjoy large groves of giant bamboo, the average suburban block
remains out of bounds for growing some of the running and even less adventurous clumping
types that can spread several meters. One thing I did at a
client's place was build this raised planter and clad it in a retro white tile that
complimented the black stems of the black bamboo, but you could just as well use a large
pot. It’s the obvious solution for those of you that want to enjoy the benefits and
style that Bamboos have to offer without even picking up a
shovel! Bamboos make a bold potted specimen In the garden, and
by using several potted plants you can create yourown living walls or dividers to create
privacy in an entertainment area. When selecting pots, look for
clean modern lines. Think plain glazed urns, white crackle pots and of course pots with an
oriental theme look great. A pot will create a platform to display your bamboo and
compliment the habit and great texture they all possess. ![]() |

About this Blog

A constant learning curve, gardening is all about trial and error. Knowledge grows from sharing information between friends, passing down through generations, or just getting it wrong a few times before you get it right. It's about getting grubby outside and aching from digging too much, but then feeling that fall away when you get your first flower or prize fruit off a new tree... and getting so excited you need to tell everyone.
Yours in Green is everything I’ve learnt so far - what to do when, how to do it right the first time, and of course, some frustrations along the way and how to remedy them.
